The Hellfire Club, in Southwest Dublin, it's not what you would call a big secret, but it carries some stories that nobody knows for sure they happened. At the top sits the rubble of a large hunting lodge.
To reach the place, you need to go by car, as there are no public transport routes. it is also necessary to walk 20 minutes to reach the high point. The place has a variety of forest trails and provides wonderful views of the city:
The place was built by Speaker Conolly, one of the wealthiest men in Ireland. It is said that Conolly destroyed the cairn while building the lodge. Some time later, the roof was blown off during a storm. You will never believe, but locals say that aggrieved spirits seeking vengeance for the cairn’s destruction were responsible for it.
The building was sold
after Conolly’s death and it is said to have become a meeting place for the Irish
Hellfire Club. The best-known Hellfire club story is the in which the Devil
himself appears.
Some say the building
was deliberately set on fire in order to enhance its hellish atmosphere.
